China seeks Indian English teachers (Big News Network)
China's education minister is visiting India universities and schools in search of language teachers to meet the growing demand for English in China.
English has been India's major advantage over China in attracting the IT work. Once the Chinese become proficient in English, what's stopping them from luring the work away from India? A few teachers could potentially erase the competitive advantage India has.
Posted by Harshal at November 19, 2004 02:38 PMI have already seen a marked improvement in English speaking ability of Chinese coming for grad school in the last 5 years..compared to say, 10 years ago. I think, like everything else, once China takes upon itself to excel in something, they do it. So.. I think the move is afoot and its just a question of how fast ..not if.. China overcomes its handicap of spoken/written English.
Posted by: Sanjeev on November 19, 2004 02:48 PMChinese students are crazy for American life style. The education minister may get teachers from India or any other nation but he will have to make sure that school, colleges and universities are accepting Indians as teacher or not.
The important aspect in this context as I am experiencing in China that they dont care education, experience but they care nationality of a foreign teacher. I think minister should give a guideline to the authority to hire a teacher on the basis of qualification rather than nationality.
