Daler Mehndi's "Shaa Ra Ra Ra" 2004 Tour
Over a dozen concerts (and almost just as many open slots) from Oct 30 (Wash DC) to Dec 11 (New Jersey).
isnt Daler supposed to be in jail? guess he's out on bail..lekin 'foreign' tour allow kiya...not considered a flight risk?
Posted by: sanjeev on October 20, 2004 03:07 PMHe was apparently released for lack of evidence. This March 2004 TOI article (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/554720.cms) talks about Daler being allowed to go to Pakistan for a concert. And this Sep 2004 TIME Asia Magazine article (http://www.time.com/time/asia/magazine/article/0,13673,501040920-695912,00.html) has more details.
***** A year later all charges have been dropped against Mehndi. "Daler Mehndi and his brother look alike," says Punjab police Director-General A.A. Siddiqui. "That's where the confusion arose." .... Meanwhile, the case continues against Mehndi's brother Shamsher. ****
"They look alike" Yeah right!
BTW, this CNN report (http://edition.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/27/india.mehndi/) from last year shows the ugly side of the desi fans. People threw paint on his car and screamed "Daler Mehndi die die" as he was being led into the police station last year.

"And yet in the late '90s, fresh from a stint driving a cab in Berkeley, California"...

And that has to be the lamest excuse made ever.. 'they look alike'! :))
