Indian bandit 'killed by police' (BBC)
Tamil Nadu police are claiming to have killed Veerappan. Almost all the wire services (AP, Reuters etc.) have the details.
An AP article has the additional detail that "an associate of Veerappan had surrendered a few hours before the gunbattle and had led the police to the hideout".

It is a shame that it took so long to isolate this 'bandit' and end his 'tyranny'.

Jayalalitha needs no praises at this moment. Her men are cowards and this is an act of shame.Had veerappan been tracked and caught in the forests , then this wd have been a thing of praises.

whether veerappan was sick or not the person going under the cloak "president" is certainly sick.
